The waters around Long Island are recognized for some of the
best fishing on the east coast. In fact, over 80 world fishing
records have been set on Long Island since 1980.
There are several ways for
an out-of-towner to go fishing on Long Island. If you bring a
rod you can fish free off any public beach or pier. You can rent
a boat at most marinas, hire a charter
boat or hop on an "open boat" which sail daily
and require no advance reservations or minimum number of
people.
Long Island is home to
dozens of fishing tournaments and contests throughout the year
with prizes for fish caught from boats, piers and off the
beach.
Fresh water fishing is
plentiful on Long Island although a fishing license is
required to fish in our many lakes, ponds and streams.
